Stark Walks is a network of safe, pedestrian-friendly walking routes throughout the city of Canton.  All of the routes include directional signage that indicate approximate distance and travel time.  These routes were designed to provide opportunities for safe, physical activity right in your neighborhood!  Walking burns calories, reduces the risk of developing chronic disease, improves mood and is an overall great exercise.  Everyone is encourage to take a step in the right direction - walk the paths, explore your community, get regular exercise and be healthy!

Stark Walks is supported by the Stark County Health Department and United Way of Greater Stark County through Live Well Stark County Coalition.  The current Stark Walks walking paths are located in:

CATCH (Coordinated Approach to Child Health) is a program for youth ages K-8 that exposes them to one hour of physical activity and one hour of nutrition education per week.  CATCH is the most cost effective means of preventing childhood obesity, in an environmental that is fun and easy to sustain.  It is being incorporated to help children develop and sustain health dietary and physical activity behaviors.  This behavior change will be encouraged by staff and volunteers, through structured physical activity, nutrition education and health snacks.

It is offered at the Eric Snow Family YMCA on Mondays and Thursdays from 3:00pm to 4:00pm.  This program will continue for the next few weeks and then will hopefully be moving into after school programs in the fall.  Contact the Eric Snow Family YMCA at 330-458-2403 for more information.
